Cover Letter
I have been consulting to businesses and individuals since 1986. Starting with packaging and promotional materials. I later added database design, web site development and network management as my skills grew and the demands of my clients increased. Recent projects have included designing the e-commerce web site for WeTeachSports.com, and site concept design work for DestinationMedia.com (a rich media data warehouse), and HipHumber.com (an equine auction site).
I was employed by Applied Magnetics Corporation (AMC) from 1997 to January of 2000 after having consulted to them for eight years. As Engineering Systems Administrator at AMC I was responsible for delivering leading-edge systems for the management of, and decimation of, all aspects of the corporate knowledge-base. I was charged with the design and maintenance of an enterprise scaled, product data management (PDM) system that included workflow, engineering change orders, and shop floor manufacturing training and instructions and the delivery of these over the corporate network. In addition, I was responsible for creating and maintaining the corporate web pages for the internal and external web sites up until the company closed it's doors in January of 2000.
As a consultant, I have been involved in many projects for companies from LA to the Bay Area. Over the years I have worked extensively with the Mac and Windows platforms. My knowledge of desktop publishing, database applications, web site design, and electronic publishing dovetail with a solid background in database and network administration.
Today I wish to leverage this broad computing background as a project manager with a specialty in site design for all manner of web based projects.

Career Overview
My graphics and printing training began quite literally at my Father's feet. After a dozen years running his own printing company my father spent the last years of his life creating geological maps for Earl Bunting and Associates of Washington DC As a child I spent hours working at a small table that fit beneath his drafting table first drawing pictures and later making maps and charts to illustrate school assignments.
I began using computers when I was in an IBM sponsored Boy Scout troop in Arlington VA. At our meetings we learned about the giant mainframes and storage devices of the era.
In 1975 while working as Lead Counselor at a vocational training program (The Great Crepe in San Rafael, CA) I got my first chance to use my graphics skills when I was asked to design the restaurant's menu.
During the late 1970's while working for a gourmet wholesale food company (Torn Ranch) I made use of my first computer (remember Z80 CPU's and the CPM OS) to design an inventory management database.
This led to a job with Cocolat, Inc. (later bought by San Francisco's Ghiradelly Chocolate Co.) and here I continued to develop my database skills and began designing decorative packaging and long distance shipping containers for the fragile chocolate truffles and cakes the company wholesaled and retailed.
I started using Macintosh computers for graphics design about a year after their introduction in 1984 and have never looked back. Well perhaps that isn't entirely true since I was the Systems Administrator for the Engineering Services group at Applied Magnetics Corporation (AMC). In this position I managed a group of Windows NT workstations and servers that produced and managed all CAD and technical documentation for what was a major hard drive head manufacturer.
In 1987 I began creating brochures and mailing databases for realtors and loan agents, first in the Bay Area and later in the greater Santa Barbara area.
In 1990 I worked for a time as Interim Manager for the Santa Barbara City College bookstore and in June of that year I started part-time contract work creating training materials for AMC.
